Abstract

Speaker recognition has been used for thousands of years to authenticate the identity of a person. During the last five decades modern technology developments and modern mathematical techniques have been applied to speaker recognition. These modern advancements have allowed for the creation of autonomous speaker recognition systems. This paper surveys the history of text-independent speaker recognition and the advances in related sciences which have allowed autonomous speaker recognition systems to become a practical means of identity authentication.
